Jean-Luc (“JL”) Neptune is a licensed physician, startup founder, and investor who serves as Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) at the Hospital for Special Surgery’s Global Innovation Institute. In his role as EIR Dr. Neptune is helping HSS form, nurture, and spin-off startups that leverage intellectual property developed in-house.
Prior to joining HSS Dr. Neptune was a partner at Blueprint Health, a leading digital health accelerator, where he oversaw the operations of the Blueprint Health Accelerator. Blueprint Health has invested in 77 digital health companies which have collectively raised $100mm in funding and have a total aggregate value of $500mm.
Before joining Blueprint Health Dr. Neptune was Senior Vice President at Health 2.0 and Director of the Health 2.0 Catalyst program. Through the Catalyst program Health 2.0 has run over 75 innovation competitions and offered over more than $7mm in funding to a network of thousands of developers, designers and technologists.
Dr. Neptune has co-founded two digital health startups including Healogica, an online clinical trials matching platform (acquired by the Michael J. Fox Foundation), and ExpertConsensus, a virtual second opinion service.
Dr. Neptune earned a BA from Columbia College at Columbia University, an MD from the Columbia College of Physicians and Surgeons, and an MBA at the Wharton School. Dr. Neptune completed a residency in internal medicine at Presbyterian Hospital in New York City, passed the ABIM board examination, and is licensed to practice medicine in the state of New York.
